The Galloway School faced the difficult task of expanding their arts curriculum without over-whelming the adjacent neighborhood. The solution involved inserting the performance theater in the middle of the existing campus and surrounding the massive structure with residentially scaled classrooms and support spaces. The architecture drew on the scale of single family dwellings to create a playful, yet controlled composition that is an inviting atmosphere for the children attending school. The interior colors maintain the sense of openness and complement the architecture.

Primary to the design goals was the establishment of a definitive circulation system that provides order for both the students and faculty and therefore restates the educational process. The exterior of the building fits the project into the existing context of homes through a pattern and rhythm of elements reducing the overall scale of the enclosed spaces.
The theater design allows for the production of a variety of plays and music as well as the ability to teach the elements of theater lighting, set design and performance production.
