The new 147‐bed facility is connected by a loggia to the older adjacent Dempsey Residence Hall and contributes to the definition of a new “Residence Quad” in its strong site relationship to the Phase I Residence Hall. The design is consistent with the historic fabric of the circa 1920’s campus. The façade of Phase II is constructed with the “Oglethorpe‐look” in mind – employing a material palette that is predominantly granite with design elements featuring cast‐stone tracery and expressions of towers, gables, and crenulations. The apartment‐style planning paradigm is similar to the Phase I layout, with four (4) individual bedrooms supported by two (2) separate bath facilities. Additional functions included in the program include a complex of student recreation, activity, and support spaces located adjacent to the first floor entry. As for addressing the security concerns in the design, card access security hardware is provided at all entrances to the building itself, access points at each of the four (4) floors, and the entrances to each apartment unit. A central concierge station is provided at the main entrance lobby for heightened building security.
