This project is an addition and renovation of the existing Towns County Public Library in downtown Hiawassee, Georgia. The original building was approximately 4000 sf. That area was renovated and another 4000 sf was added. The entry feature was shifted along with new circulation in and out of the building. A new, expanded circulation desk was added. The expanded space provided an expansion of stacks and reading areas and staff work areas. Both adult and children’s areas were expanded. Other important features are a hospitality area near the front entrance and a screen porch off the stacks area. Views of the beautiful mountains and surrounding features is an important aspect of the design. The screen porch has a fireplace and a view of Brasstown Bald, the highest mountain in Georgia. Lake Chatuge can be seen in the foreground. A reading area has a bay window that offers a view up and down South Berrong Street and to log cabins across the street. The hospitality area in the front is curved with views to activity in the center space of Hiawassee.
